India marks 78th Independence Day

India celebrates its 78th Independence Day today. It annually falls on August 15.This day marks the pivotal moment in 1947 when India achieved independence from British rule following a prolonged fight for freedom. The occasion will be celebrated with various ceremonies and events holding parades, cultural performances and decorations in the national colours of saffron, white and green. Flags, flowers and balloons are used to decorate public buildings, schools and homes, while communities come together to enjoy patriotic songs, traditional foods and various events.The event also include the Prime Minister’s address to the nation from the Red Fort. The day is observed with great enthusiasm and patriotism across India, paying homage to the countless sacrifices made for the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag for the 11th time in a row at the Red Fort. Security was tightened across India with over 10,000 cops, facial recognition cameras and snipers deployed in Delhi and security camps set up in 13 villages in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-hit Bastar region where the Tricolour will be hoisted for the first time to celebrate Independence Day. On the eve of Independence Day, several rallies were taken out across the country under the Centre’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
