Akshay Urja Diwas

Akshay Urja Diwas is observed on August 20 every year. It is undertaken to raise awareness about the advantages of renewable energy and to emphasise on usage of energy resources efficiently in India. This day encourages the individuals, businesses and communities to adopt and integrate renewable energy solutions into their daily lives. This shift not only helps reduce dependence on non-renewable resources but also contributes to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change. It honours the birth anniversary of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Hence, August 20 is also known as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas.The day was established by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in 2004 accompanied by the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The event was organised in New Delhi. On this day, schools, colleges, and universities conduct special programs, workshops, and competitions to educate students about the importance of renewable energy and the science behind it.
