Goulashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna

The festival of Janmashtami honours the birth of Lord Krishna, Vishnu’s eighth avatar. It is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada. According to Drik Panchang, Janmashtami is typically observed on two consecutive days, with devotees observing a 24-hour fast and a midnight feast known as “bhog,” dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and great pomp across the country. He is known for his playful nature and his teachings in the holy book, Bhagavad Gita. Many people decorate their homes and temples with flowers and lights. They also sing songs and dance to celebrate. Devoterd even fast and pray. At midnight, the time when Lord Krishna was born, they broke their fast and shared sweets. Children enjoy this festival by breaking a pot filled with butter, which is called “Dahi Handi.” Janmashtami teaches us to be kind, and honest, and to always do good deeds. It is a festival that brings happiness and teaches valuable lessons about love and friendship.
