A pride and dignified moment for Indian Nation as India celebrates Indian Navy Day every year on 4 December to honor the sacrifices and role of naval forces in fostering security and stability the maritime domain. Indians celebrates the occasion with pride and vagour holding a special place in their hearts for the Indian Naval forces 
 
Historical Significance of Indian Navy Day
 
4 December holds a pioneer importance in the hearts of Indians as it commemorates   “Operation Trident” during  the 1971 Indo- Pak war launched by the Indian Navy against Karachi Harbour. 
 
Operation Trident : Indo- Pakistan War 1971
 
Operation Trident was an operation launched by the Indian Navy on the night of December 4-5, 1971. This was the first time that an anti- ship missile was used by Indian Navy in the operation.  It launched three missile boats – INS Veer, INS Nipat, INS Nirghat and Vidyut- class boats- towards Karachi and sank three Pakistani Navy ships.The attack was successful and India did not suffer any loss during  the operation or report any casualty during the operation. 
 
Indian Navy Day Theme 2023
 
Each year, a different theme is proposed to celebrate the victory of Indian Navy against the Pakistan naval headquarters in Karachi. The theme of this year is  “Operational Efficiency, Readiness and Mission Accomplishment in the Maritime Domain.”
 
Celebrations of Indian Navy 
 
This day is celebrated with various ceremonies and events taking place across naval bases and establishments across the country. The celebrations consists of impressive parades, operational demonstrations and display of naval capabilities.  This time Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the celebration at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra today, December 4, 2023 and will also unveil the 43- feet Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue at Rajkot Fort, Prime Minister’s Office.
 
PM Modi will also witness demonstrations by warships, submarines, aircraft and special forces.
