National Farmer’s Day

India is a country where agriculture is a primary occupation of population. About 70% of population is engaged in farming activity. National Farmer’s Day or Rashtriya Kisan Diwas is celebrated on December 23 every year to honor the contribution of farmers to the socio-economic development of the country.
Farmers are considered the son of land and food giver. This day commemorate the birth anniversary of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh who belonged to Uttar Pradesh and worked for the welfare of farmers of the nation. This day is celebrated to remember the hardwork and determination of farmers. This occasion is celebrated in agricultural and farming states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh and others.
Chaudhary Charan Singh framed several welfare schemes for the farmers to improve their conditions and empower them. As a result, the government took the decision in 2001 to recognise Chaudhary Charan Singh’s contribution to the upliftment of farmers and the development of the agriculture sector.
The theme for Farmer’s Day 2023 is ‘Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience’. The purpose of the celebration is to honour the invaluable contribution of farmers in the development of the country and its economy.
