Performance of 1600 tabla players in unison marked a record in Guinness Book of World Record in Gwalior

1600 tabla artists performed in unison at the Gwalior Fort at the ‘Tabla Darbar’ event. On December 25, the ‘Tabla Darbar’ festival event was organized near Karna Mahal on the Fort in the evening. The theme of the event was ‘Vande Mataram’. The tabla artists paid musical tribute to music emperor Tansen on the tune of three beats. UNESCO has officially recognised Gwalior as a ‘City of Music’.
The three-member team of Guinness Book Of World Record was present to physically supervise and record the ‘Tabla Darbar’ performance at Gwalior Fort.
The artists hailed from Kolkata, Mumbai, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and more than 50 other Indian cities.
Local artists in the ‘Tabla Darbar’ event had continuously been practicing at the Raja Mansingh Tomar Music University in Gwalior in the run-up to the record-breaking performance.
Madhya Pradesh CM Dr Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar were present to witness the historic performance.
Expressing his joy, Chief Minister Yadav announced December 25 will be celebrated as ‘Tabla Divas’.
“This day is very special for us. To make this event memorable, December 25 would be celebrated as Tabla Divas. The history of music in India is considered to be more than 5000 years old. Music and Gwalior can never be separated,” the CM said.
