Varalakshmi Vratam 2024

Varalaxmi Vrat is one of the most auspicious day dedicated to worship Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. This Vrat is observed by the married women in Andhra Pradesh, Telagana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Devotees observe fast to honour Maa Vara Laxmi. This day is also celebrated as Varalakshmi Nombu. Varalaxmi Vrat will be observed on Ekadashi Tithi (Friday) of Shukla Paksha in Sawan Month. This year, Varalakshami Vrat falls on August 16, 2024. It is observed to honour Maa Laxmi and mostly married women observe this fast for the well being and longevity of their husbands, and other family members. Goddess Varalakshmi is a divine form of Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. She emerged from the milky ocean, known as Kshir Sagar, and is celebrated for her ability to bestow blessings and fulfill the desires of her devotees. Varalakshmi’s appearance reflects her celestial origins: she is depicted with a complexion akin to the milky ocean and wears clothes of similar hues.The name ‘Varalakshmi’ itself signifies her nature—’Vara’ meaning boon or blessing, and ‘Lakshmi’ referring to the goddess of wealth.The Ashta Lakshmi represents eight potent forces: Siri (Wealth), Bhu (Earth), Sarasvati (Knowledge), Priti (Love), Keerthi (Fame), Shanthi (Peace), Santushti (Pleasure), and Pushti (Strength). These energies are personified as Lakshmi and revered as the eight manifestations of Goddess Lakshmi. For Varalakshmi Vratam, take a bath and set up an altar of Maa Lakshmi in your house. Then adorn it will new clothes, Kumkum, jewellery, and red flowers. Then place a kalash filled with water and and also place unbroken rice. Offer sweets, fruits and other items to the goddess and seek blessings. Observing women tie a yellow thread on their hands and abstain from specific foods, with some regions requiring a fast until the puja ceremony concludes.
