National Small Industry Day

National Small Industry Day is observed on August 30 every year in India. This day recognises the contributions of small businesses and industries to the economy employment generation, and regional development of the country. Small businesses can be classified based on their annual revenues, shipments, sales, assets, annual gross, net revenue and profits and the number of employees. The origins of Small Industry Day can be traced back to the year 2000 when the Indian government introduced a comprehensive policy package for small-scale industries (SSI). To mark this significant development, the Ministry of Small-Scale Industries declared August 30 as Small Industries Day.The first celebration took place on August 30, 2001, when the Ministry organised a convention for small entrepreneurs in the national capital. The day is also an opportunity for the central and state governments to encourage and support small industries which offer employment to a large number of people. On this day, various events, including conferences, seminars, and workshops, are organised by industry associations, and chambers of commerce with a focus on issues such as policy support, access to finance, technology adoption, and market expansion for small industries.
