Neeraj Chopra won India’s silver medal in the Paris Games with a season’s best throw of 89.45m in javelin throw competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday. It was Chopra’s second medal after the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. “It was a good throw but I’m not that happy with my performance today,” Neeraj expressed his disappointment after the event. “My technique and runway was not that good. (I managed) only one throw, the rest I fouled.
“(For my) second throw I believed in myself to think I can also throw that far. But in javelin, if your run is not so good, you can’t throw very far,” added Neeraj, whose medal-winning throw came with his second attempt.
In the javenil finals, only one throw of Neeraj’s five attempts was counted. After the first three attempts, only the top eight advance to the second round, where they get three more attempts. Neeraj Chopra slipped towards the end of his first throw on his initial attempt and it was ruled out as invalid. His silver medal-winning throw of 89.45 meters came in his second attempt. However, he didn’t get enough on his third attempt either and he stepped out and decided to not log the throw. His other two throws were invalid too. He couldn’t make a single valid throw after that, as he kept touching the line during his follow-through. In his second throw, India managed to secure a silver medal.
